leading talent assessment solutions since 1976

Psychometrics Canada was founded in 1976 by Dr. George Fitzsimmons, a professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Alberta.  The primary focus of the business was K-12 achievement testing and distribution of Stanford University’s Strong Interest Inventory. At the time, computerised scoring was still very specialized and Psychometrics was able to access the University’s mainframes and optical scanners.

As a counselling psychologist Dr. Fitzsimmons understood how relationships at work and home were impacted by personality and values. In the 1980’s the company began distributing the Myers- Briggs® assessment in Canada and in 1990 they had developed the French Canadian version of the MBTI® Form G. Other French Canadian assessments followed including the Strong Interest Inventory®, CPI, and FIRO-B.

Psychometrics own Work Personality Index® assessment was published in 2001, the same year that the CareerID online testing platform was launched, earning the company an e-business award that year.  Five years later, the company became the sole distributor of the MBTI, Strong, CPI, FIRO-B® and TKI in Canada.

Mark Fitzsimmons, George’s son, took over the business operations in 2008, maintaining the same values instrumental to success of our client relationships: integrity, customer focus, and commitment to community.

Westgroup Solutions, a boutique industrial organizational psychology firm which specialized in recruitment and selection was acquired in 2012.

In 2017, the assets of Boston based Bay State Psychological Associates were purchased which included the rights to the Employee Reliability Inventory.

After several years of development, the Psychometrics.com online testing platform was launched in the fall of 2020, replacing CareerID.

Psychometrics now provides a full spectrum of assessment consulting: assisting organizations with the selection of entry level employees, identifying high potential individuals, developing teams and leaders, and providing in-depth analysis of senior management candidates.
