Barry d\u00e9clare que : \u00ab La formule secr\u00e8te consiste \u00e0 mettre sur pied une entreprise capable de s\u2019actualiser. Dans notre domaine, un concept se maintient en moyenne pendant quatre ou cinq ans. D\u00e8s que tu rel\u00e2ches ta vigilance, on te laisse loin derri\u00e8re \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>La cha\u00eene de restaurants Earls, fond\u00e9e en 1982 et \u00e9tablie \u00e0 Vancouver, compte 62 installations au Canada et dans l\u2019Ouest am\u00e9ricain. Le parcours a \u00e9t\u00e9 difficile.<\/p>\n<p>M. Barry affirme que \u00ab Earls \u00e9tait autrefois le seul restaurant de ce cr\u00e9neau \u00e0 mi-chemin entre le service rapide et la salle \u00e0 manger haut de gamme. Aujourd\u2019hui, ce cr\u00e9neau est bond\u00e9, et le<br \/>\nbassin de recrutement se r\u00e9tr\u00e9cit. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Pour devancer la concurrence, Earls investit consid\u00e9rablement dans la formation de son personnel. \u00ab Nous transmettons les connaissances et les comp\u00e9tences essentielles \u00e0 nos employ\u00e9s afin qu\u2019ils sachent g\u00e9rer un restaurant et qu\u2019ils se r\u00e9alisent en tant que leaders. Nos leaders dirigent pr\u00e8s de 200 employ\u00e9s \u00e0 temps partiel qui ont des objectifs tr\u00e8s diversifi\u00e9s; le d\u00e9fi le plus important que ces leaders doivent relever est celui de rallier tout le personnel \u00e0 notre vision. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019un des ingr\u00e9dients importants de cette formule secr\u00e8te est la m\u00e9thode Thomas-Kilmann en situation de conflit (TKI) que l\u2019entreprise utilise depuis 2006 au cours de ses colloques de leadership d\u2019\u00e9quipe pour jeunes leaders, dont les superviseurs de jour et les superviseurs des cuisines.<\/p>\n<p>M. Barry explique : \u00ab Pour nous, la formation du leadership constitue une philosophie d\u2019enrichissement de soi. Un leader authentique est celui qui am\u00e9liore sa fa\u00e7on de s\u2019examiner et travaille sans cesse \u00e0 se perfectionner. Les dirigeants moins exp\u00e9riment\u00e9s qui doivent engager du personnel transitoire doivent pouvoir se poser la question : \u00ab Quel type de leader suis-je ? \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Ainsi, dot\u00e9 de l\u2019information que lui fournit la m\u00e9thode TK \u00e0 son sujet, chaque leader des restaurants Earls apprend \u00e0 relever l\u2019un des d\u00e9fis les plus difficiles de tous. \u00ab Les conflits naissent in\u00e9vitablement parmi les nombreuses relations que les leaders doivent g\u00e9rer \u00bb, affirme M. Barry, \u00ab mais bon nombre d\u2019individus ont du mal \u00e0 traiter les conflits. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Il ajoute ceci : \u00ab La m\u00e9thode Thomas Kilmann d\u00e9finit le conflit en fonction de la conscience de soi, de sorte que les gens en arrivent \u00e0 bien comprendre leurs tendances individuelles lorsqu\u2019il s\u2019agit de traiter les conflits. Cette approche aide les gens \u00e0 comprendre qu\u2019il existe des choix en mati\u00e8re de traitement de conflits : ces choix sont ni les meilleurs, ni les pires, mais ce sont des choix plus ou moins efficaces selon le sc\u00e9nario. Et il y a des r\u00e9percussions quel que soit le choix. Alors, quelles sont les occasions d\u2019opter pour d\u2019autres modes strat\u00e9giques de r\u00e9solution de conflit ? \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>M. Barry juge que ce type de r\u00e9flexion strat\u00e9gique est essentielle \u00e0 tout bon leader : \u00ab Le leader doit \u00eatre d\u00e9termin\u00e9 et d\u2019un esprit strat\u00e9gique. S\u2019il peut mettre de c\u00f4t\u00e9 son \u00e9motivit\u00e9 et son attitude d\u00e9fensive, et s\u2019il peut observer une pause critique, s\u2019accorder un instant de pens\u00e9e rationnelle : voil\u00e0 la marque d\u2019un vrai leader! \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>M. Barry dit que la formation de leaders chevronn\u00e9s est une d\u00e9marche professionnelle qui fait la fiert\u00e9 de Earls, que ces leaders demeurent ou non au service de l\u2019entreprise. \u00ab Le leadership est un cheminement particulier que chacun doit faire \u00e0 sa fa\u00e7on.
