Career Interest Profiler (CIP)
Help People Discover Rich and Fulfilling Careers
Identify Personally Compatible Career Options
The Career Interest Profiler measures six occupational interest categories and generates a report suggesting 20 to 40 matched careers. The easy-to-use feedback report means career counsellors, advisors, and teachers can use the CIP immediately to help adults and students explore job and study options.
Available in English and French.

Uncovering an Interest-Aligned Career Isn’t Easy
The Career Interest Profiler gives counsellors a straightforward, validated framework to focus job search and educational pathways for clients.
Clients don’t know where to start…
They are unsure where to focus their career search. Without data, clients leave with unclear or poorly-matched career path advice.
…give them 20 to 40 matched careers.
The CIP generates a ranked list of compatible careers based on six interest categories. Clients leave with concrete direction, not abstract advice.
Career exploration feels overwhelming…
The universe of career options is paralyzing. Clients browse job boards endlessly without a framework for narrowing down what truly fits their interests.
…identify jobs and career options that fit thier personality.
The CIP does not prescibe one job, it focuses the search to careers that relate to your clients personal interests, strengths, and work style.
Vocational and technical options get overlooked…
Most career tools focus on professional roles. Clients with hands-on or technical interests struggle to find assessments that validate their direction.
…include vocational and technical careers.
The CIP report covers vocational and technical occupations alongside professional roles. Skilled trades, healthcare support, and technical careers are represented.
Six Holland Career Interest Categories
The assessment is built upon John Holland’s RIASEC model, a widely validated psychological framework that categorizes both people and work environments into six distinct occupational themes.
The CIP identifies your client’s top themes and provides suggestions for occupations that will resonate with their interests.

Career Reports Covering 1,100+ Occupations
The Career Interest Profiler is available in two editions. Both use the same 180-item RIASEC assessment but link to different national occupational databases and labour market resources.
The CIP doesn’t prescribe a career path for clients to pursue. The goal of the CIP is to narrow the career / job search to interest-aligned clusters. This often leads to highlighting options that your client has never even considered, but match with what they like to do. Clients receive a ranked list of potential career and the regional data needed to act on them.

Career Interest Profiler – Canadian Edition
Links career matches to 1,100+ careers in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) database. Includes regional labour market information, salary data, and career outlook.

Career Interest Profiler – U.S. Edition
Links career matches to the O*NET (Occupational Information Network) database and the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Common Questions About the Career Interest Profiler
Do I need a certification to administer the CIP?
No certification, psychology credential, or formal training is required. Career counsellors, educators, employment advisors, and HR professionals can purchase and administer the CIP immediately through Psychometrics.com.
How is the CIP different from the Strong Interest Inventory?
Both are built on Holland’s RIASEC framework, but they differ in scope and access. The Strong Interest Inventory is a Level B instrument requiring certification, with deeper measurement across 260 occupational scales. The CIP is a Level A instrument with no certification required, offering a more concise report with 20 to 40 career matches. The CIP is well suited for employment programs and settings where certification is not practical.
What is the difference between the Canadian and US editions?
Both editions use the same 180-item RIASEC assessment. The Canadian Edition links career matches to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) database with 1,100+ careers, regional salary data, and Canadian labour market outlook. The US Edition links to the O*NET database and the Occupational Outlook Handbook from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Can the CIP be paired with other assessments?
Yes. The CIP pairs well with the Career Values Scale (interest + values) and the MBTI (interest + personality). ATB Financial paired the CIP with the MBTI in its “Finding Your Way” program. The Career Values Scale adds a layer of workplace fit that complements the CIP’s interest-based career matching.
Does the CIP include vocational and technical careers?
Yes. Unlike many career tools that focus primarily on professional roles, the CIP report includes vocational and technical occupations alongside professional careers. Skilled trades, healthcare support, and technical roles are represented with the same depth, making it appropriate for workforce development programs and trade-focused counselling.
Is the CIP available in French?
The CIP Canadian Edition is available in both English and French. The US Edition is available in English.
