Choosing the right career is an important decision. The Strong Interest Inventory gives career practitioners a framework to help individuals find their right career in concrete, measurable terms.

The Career Decision Struggle
Choosing a career path is a major decision! The Strong Interest Inventory gives practitioners a research-validated framework to ground career conversations in data.
Clients feel uncertain about career direction…
Clients may know their career isn’t a great fit, but they can’t articulate what kind of work would actually satisfy them. Without data, career conversations go in circles.
…give them a ranked list of compatible careers.
The Strong Interest Inventory compares client interests against satisfied workers and produces a ranked list of compatible careers across 30 professional fields.
Career decisions lack structure or data…
Without a framework, clients rely on anecdotal advice, job board browsing, or gut feeling. Practitioners need a tool that turns subjective preferences into objective direction.
…anchor decisions in 75+ years of research.
The Strong assessment links individuals interests to real-world occupations and educational pathways.
Clients struggle to connect interests to careers…
Someone who loves problem-solving does not know that it maps to dozens of specific occupations. The gap between “what I enjoy” and “what jobs exist” feels impossible to bridge alone.
.…translate interests into concrete pathways.
The Strong Interest Inventory measures interests across work activities, leisure activities, and school subjects, then maps them to specific occupations. Clients leave with direction, not just data.
Career conversations feel overwhelming…
Without data-backed career guidance, clients and practitioners spend sessions exploring broadly without narrowing toward action.
.…focus the conversation on what matters.
Insights narrow the field to the most compatible careers and identify specific activities within those fields using 30 Basic Interest Scales.

Common Questions About the Strong Interest Inventory
Do I need to be certified to administer the Strong Interest Inventory?
Yes. The Strong Interest Inventory must be administered by a certified professional. Practitioners must complete the Psychometrics Canada Strong Interest Inventory Certification Program (10 modules, 40 to 45 hours, self-directed online) or hold an equivalent professional qualification.
What is the difference between the Strong Interest Inventory and the Strong Interest Inventory 244?
The Strong Interest Inventory 244 is a modern, shorter version of the Strong Interest Inventory assessment with expanded occupational coverage (321 occupations vs. 260), 100 academic major scores, and gender-neutral scoring. It is particularly well suited for students and career explorers who need inclusive, current data.
Can the Strong Interest Inventory be combined with the MBTI®?
Yes. The Strong Interest Inventory + MBTI Career Report combines interest data with personality preference data. The Strong identifies what kind of work may satisfy a client, while the MBTI identifies how they prefer to work. This combination is used for career enrichment, work-life balance, and navigating complex career changes.
Does the Strong Interest Inventory just give clients a list of careers to choose from?
No. While the assessment does produce a ranked list of compatible occupations, the Strong goes further. It also identifies potential educational pathways, and provides personal style insights.
Who finds the most value from the Strong Interest Inventory?
The Strong Interest Inventory is flexible for clients at any career stage: students exploring first careers, professionals considering mid-career changes, employees in outplacement programs, and anyone who struggles to connect their interests to real career options. Different report formats are available to match each scenario.
