Effective leaders are self-aware – they recognize the impact of their behaviours on the people around them. Research studies show that leaders who are self-aware have the following advantages:

  • More confident
  • More creative
  • Make better decisions
  • Build stronger relationships
  • Communicate more clearly
  • Have more satisfied employees
  • Have more profitable organizations

Since effective leaders are self-aware, effective leadership development needs to incorporate robust feedback systems. This can come in many forms; meetings with other leaders, input from direct reports, and insights shared from mentors and coaches. Yet these are not as common or as accessible to many leaders, which leaves them in a feedback deficient environment. The most efficient way to fill this gap is by using 360 multi-rater assessments and leadership style tools.

Before and during leadership development, feedback is critical for keeping leaders on track. At the beginning of their leadership journey a clear understanding of their leadership style, natural strengths and potential blind spots is important. The Work Personality Index Leadership Potential report is designed to give leaders clear and actionable insights into 21 characteristics of their leadership style.

During leadership development, leaders need feedback on the effectiveness of their approach and a way to identify new leadership priorities. This is where the Psychometrics 360 assessment is most useful, providing leaders with a clear snapshot of their performance on 24 leadership competencies.

Don’t shy away from building feedback systems for leaders. While feedback can make leaders uncomfortable initially, effective ones will quickly come to appreciate and embrace the information they receive.
